Procrastinating
This morning I was up at 8am. I still haven't done anything yet. Well, nothing productive. I have looked at printers. First, Epson Ink Jets because they have separate color cartridges and I'm so tired of replacing the whole color cartridge when one color runs out. Plus, I hate my printer. But none of the Epsons had stellar reviews at CNet, so I moved on to HP. My first printer was an HP and that thing was a work horse. For 8 or 9 years, I never had a lick of trouble. Of course, the printer I have now and totally hate is also an HP. I decided, though, to look at laser printers. Color laser printers. I found one I really like. The price is a bit squirmy, but my department paid about that much money for just a regular black ink HP laser printer. But I can't find a single review for the thing. Before I consider whether or not I'm actually going to spend that kind of money, I want some darn reviews!

Anyway, back to procrastination. I think I'm in no hurry because I don't want to see all the things I'm going to have to fix on revision. :-( I keep telling myself that this is just a read through, I don't have to fix anything now. I just have to make notes on issues I need to address, and write down the timeline. I'm still fighting to work up any interest.

Thanksgiving was quiet. I watched the original "Yours, Mine and Ours" with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda. I adore that movie, and won't bother to see the remake because remakes are never as good as the movie they're trying to improve on.

They're supposed to be putting up the sheet rock at the house today. That'll be cool once the official walls are up. I still need to find time to get out to the back of beyond and the flooring/countertop store. Soon. Yikes! Also, I heard they're supposed to put the siding up next week. It's supposed to be snowy/rainy/slushy most of next week so it'll be interesting to see if they really do anything with that.

I have heard that laser printers are usually more expensive, and the toner cartriges are more expensive, but the cost per sheet of paper is WAY cheeper, something like one toner cartridge will print like 1000 pages, when an ink jet printer will print what, 400? pages for one cartridge? It's a toss up what you want to pay. But anything is better than paying for printing, which is where I am right now... printer stinks. DON"T buy a Lexmark!

And I have no desire to see the new Yours Mine and Ours either. Looks stupid. Is Hollywood out of ideas or what?

Candice,

There some black toner laser printers that aren't that much more than ink jets, but I don't know how well they work.

The thing about the ink jets is that the manufacturers sell the printers at a loss and make up the money on the ink cartridges. Refills and the refurbished cartridges don't seem to work as well. (and you don't want to see how much ink I got on me trying to refill a cartridge. EEK!)

The big selling point on a laser printer for me is the speed. The HP we have at work whips the pages out like a dream. When I have to print out a manuscript, that speed would be a nice thing to have. And I think the cost per page is much cheaper for the laser than ink jet, but it's the upfront costs that are daunting. I'm still in the exploratory stage, though, so it might take a while for me to make a decision. :-)

I don't know where you live, but do you have a store around you that sells used computer stuff? Maybe you could find a cheap printer there and save yourself from having to pay to print. Or maybe someone is trying to dump a printer in the want ads. I mentioned this old HP I have. The thing has to be about 14 years old now, and it still runs. Not as nicely as it used to, but still does an adequate job. I bet you could find something like that for a song. I almost had a stroke when I was in Dallas and had to pay to print out 5 pages in the hotel. They wanted a buck a page! =8-O

My guess on Hollywood is that there are plenty of innovative ideas, but that the bean counters are unwilling to take a risk on them. They want guaranteed return on investment, so they just keep regurgitating the same old stuff. Which could be why I haven't been to a movie theater since 1997. :-)

On printers, I'm not looking into them very much, I"ve been using my mom's and she's hinted that she'll buy me a new printer for xmas, so I'm just waiting on that...

Otherwise I would look into a referbished printer or something.. But eventually, I plan on buying a laser printer. (course, I have to pay off some debts first.. :) )

I don't go to the theater very often, but I have been twice this year. Revenge of the Sith came out -- I'm a huge Star Wars nut, and Serenity came out this year too, (the sequel to the series Firefly that Fox stupidly canceled...) So that's the last two movies I've seen. :)

A printer would be a great Christmas gift! I hope you get one and that it works forever. :-)

The last movie I saw in the theater was "Titanic" if that gives you an idea. I meant to go see something while I was between books earlier this year, but I ended up at the scrapbook store instead of the theater, and by the time I was done shopping, the movie had started. :-)
