Satisfied Sunday

Yesterday was a good day. Nothing exciting happened, but everything went well and I accomplished things, which leaves me feeling pretty darn satisfied this morning.

I started out with the POC laptop. Everything I needed to download and update was taken care of. I cleaned a bunch of files and programs off the computer that I never use. And it seems to be running a little better--at least it didn't freeze up on any of the power ups or downs I did--and that's a minor miracle.

I did laundry, and a sock went missing. How does that happen? I answered email. I think I may even be caught up with that unless I have a note hiding somewhere. I have the towels that I wanted for the main bathroom in the new house. The turquoise is beautiful and it should totally pop in that bathroom. I also have a little rug for the bathroom floor. The turquoise there isn't quite as brilliant, but it will look nice in there.

That left the filing to do--and it really, really needed to be done. I hadn't filed receipts, statements, etc since 2004. Yeah, I know. I just hate filing, but the To Be Filed box looked like an explosion of paper and I knew I had to deal with it. So I sorted it all into piles and then I thought, I wonder how much of this stuff I really need to keep? The answer? Not that much.

I have a book about getting rid of clutter that tells how long it's necessary to retain some of these papers. With that held open to the page, I not only went through the paperwork I needed to file, but I purged my files as well. It was great! I loved, loved, loved pitching all the unnecessary stuff I was hanging onto!

The last time I actually purged those files was when the pilots were on strike, and most of the company was laid off. I think this was 1999. A lot of stuff accumulates in 6 years. I know have a shopping bag full of paper to be shredded, but my files are absolutely beautiful and I'm elated. This is the kind of thing I need to do to all my stuff before I move.

This file project took most of my day. I spent some time talking to a friend last night that I hadn't had a chance to talk to in about forever because we both got so busy.

I even had time yesterday to find a pair of noise canceling headphones! Yea!!! I found a pair through Price Grabber that was reasonably priced (under $20) and had fabulous customer reviews from 10 people. So I ordered them. I'm hoping it will cancel out the noise from Mr. Congeniality and Loud Vendor Guy. The headset I'm using now was one I picked up for a quarter at the NWA Garage Sale to benefit the United Way. They're the same headset passengers in first class wear and they hurt my head.

The other reason I'm feeling so good today? I get to start writing again! The breaks are nice, and I do need them, I know that, but it's been about 3 weeks off. I'm ready to get back to it. It should be a challenging day, but I'm looking forward to it. Ryne and Deke, batten down the hatches, it's full steam ahead. ;-)
